Molecular Design Criteria for Board-Shaped Liquid Crystalline Dyes
The properties of organic dyes depend as much on their intermolecular interactions as on their molecular structure. We develop mesomorphic board-shaped dyes, such as derivatives of perylene, indigo, isoindigo, diketopyrrolopyrrole, and quinoxalinophenanthrophenazine, to generate different supramolecular structures for potential applications in coatings, organic electronics, and sensors.

Reduced Weld Strength in Microcellular Nylon-6 Shells
Reduced weld strength due to secondary cell formation in vibration weld region of microcellular glass fiber reinforced nylon-6 shells.

Polydiacetylene Materials
In collaboration with the group of Rondeau-Gagné we explore the topochemical polymerization of 1,3-butadiine in self-organized and self-assembled materials as a cross-linker that preserves the supramolecular structure and adds functionality.
